The Indian government has seen how China’s restrictive policies has fostered some of the world’s biggest and most innovative tech brands (i.e. Alibaba Group Holdings and Tencent Holdings). In wanting to achieve the same results for its country, India has started following in the latter’s footsteps. As the turf war between Indian and foreign technology companies intensifies in the run-up to India’s general elections this year, it is said that intermediary liability, government surveillance, digital taxation and data governance and sovereignty will dominate the debate on the country’s tech policy.
