EROPA Participates in the 2026 World Governments Summit (WGS) held in Dubai, UAE
The Eastern Regional Organization for Public Administration (EROPA) once again took part in the 2026 World Governments Summit (WGS) held from 3–5 February 2026 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, marking its fourth consecutive year of participation in the global gathering of leaders and experts in governance and public administration. Representing the organization was EROPA Secretary General Dr. Alex B. Brillantes, Jr.
As part of the Summit’s program, EROPA co-convened and participated in a Ministerial Roundtable titled “Shaping Future Governments: Achievements and Challenges in the Global South.” The roundtable was organized in collaboration with leading international public administration organizations and partners, including Dr. Guido Bertucci of Governance Solutions International (GSI), Dr. Alexander López of CLAD, Executive Director Bill Shields of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), Chairman Alikhan Baimenov of the Astana Civil Service Hub (ACSH), and Secretary General George Scott of the African Association for Public Administration and Management (AAPAM).
Held on February 4-5, 2026, the Ministerial Roundtable gathered ministers and senior officials from Africa, Latin America, and Asia to exchange insights on the evolving challenges and opportunities facing governments in the Global South. EROPA was able to invite key officers in various state members of the network representing the Asia-Pacific region: President José Ramos-Horta of Timor-Leste, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ba Chien of the Academy of Public Administration and Governance (APAG) Vietnam, President Uz Mohamed Mujuthaz of the Maldives Civil Service Commission, Secretary Arsenio Balisacan of the Philippine Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DepDev), Secretary Ernesto “Nes” Perez of the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA), among other high-level representatives. Discussions focused on key issues confronting public administrations today. Participants reflected on the continuing need for bureaucratic and civil service reforms to strengthen institutional effectiveness and responsiveness. The dialogue also highlighted the growing role of digitalization and artificial intelligence in transforming public service delivery, the importance of strategic foresight and long-term planning, and the need to reinforce ethics, transparency, and accountability in government institutions.
